crafty gifts and trees

we're going to a friend's son's 2nd birthday party today. i asked, and learned he's fond of trains. apparently, tomas the train is big. however, i soon imagined that he probably already owns many tomas the train components, so instead we ordered 2 gifts from tin toy arcade (namely, a rocket and a train). by the way, i highly recommend their service - shipping was prompt, and we just received a little tin ornament as a holiday gift in the mail from them.

inspired by some of the felt ornaments my sister and i (mostly my sister) made when she visited last week, i whipped up a smaller version of the rocketship i made with her and taped it to the card. inside the card, i instructed his parents that it can be removed and used as a christmas tree ornament.

the only purchased material is the felt. the ribbon, paper, and card are all recycled materials. my boss got a new secretary who's throwing out a bunch of folders and files, so i have a lot of card-making supplies, which will come in quite handy for the thank you notes i need to get oiff the computer and make.

in other christmas-tree-ish news, we received a dwarf spruce tree as one of our engagement gifts! here's dan planting it.

we have since removed the bows so it doesn't feel too prissy in the company of the other trees. it's very dwarfy now, but should grow to 6-8 feet.

and, dan rescued this yew that someone dug out and dumped in the yard at work. he also gets a lot of trees/shrubs from freecycle.org. anything that establishes boundaries on the property/blocks views of the neighbors houses is fine by us!

okay, off to cardmaking.
