mobile

a very good friend, scubatoe_eimi is due to give birth any day. jenniferblaufra and i came up with the idea of a collaborative project to make for the lucky kidling: a sea creature-themed mobile, as eimi and her husband are both scuba instructors/photographers.

jennifer made 3 animals: the crab above, plus the starfish:

and the shark:

i made these 3:

i collected some driftwood to use for the top portion, but settled on some mahogany, as it was easier to make something that folds for easy shipping off to sweden, where eimi lives.
here's a picture of the top. dan helped with putting together the top portion. i used some beads i found while beachcombing to keep the fishing linefrom going through the holes.

a shot from below. i made it so the animals are looking down, facing the baby. i hung the mobile in a tree, as it was dark and ominous yesterday when i was finishing this up, and there was more light outside than inside. unfortunately, it was windy and the things kept waving about when i was trying to take pictures. also, the tree makes for a distracting background. whooops - no more photo opportunities, as this baby is packed up and already at the post office.

not a great shot, but here's the side view. plus, you can see that somewhat ominous sky i was talking about. and the lovely view we are fortunate to have.

here it is, all wrapped up and ready to go in a box.

i like the hanging piece dan selected, and the fisherman's knot. (i learned how to make a fisherman's knot for this project.)

materials used: craft felt, polyfil stuffing, mahogany wood pieces, found beads, fishing line, and a boyfriend for some of the drilling/hardware assembly.

i'm so excited for eimi and thomas!
