biscuits and books

we went to our friends' annual july 4th BBQ/party yesterday, and it was really good to see everyone. my hula hoops were a hit with the kiddies, as usual. and i elaborated on my beer biscuit recipe (which someone i know veganized and spiffed up, here) by adding herbs to the mix. the rosemary and thyme definitely worked well in it.

hot day, and all this hanging out outside is making me fall behind with knitting projects.

also, i've received some good stuff for this birthday gig. although, the universe has a starnge agenda to try to get me on Team Vodka, when i'm quite happy being on Team Gin. however, since i've received some vodka-leaning gifts, i had some non traditional martinis this week. so far, a chocolate martini wins over an appletini, but i've argued about what makes a real martini too many times to get too comfortable with these rogue drinks.

a friend gave me an edward gorey book i haven't read and didn't yet own: The Willowdale Handcar. i read it this morning, and 'twas good. however, i'm always on the lookout for a gorey book that would make a good present for a child, and this one doesn't quite fit the bill. the only one i can really put in that category is The Doubtful Guest, but i'm happy to hear suggestions.

this and that, seeking suggestions, food, links, book
