consumer report

Nov 12, 2004 19:50

from an email i sent out this evening. i think i forgot to include jennifer, but i imagine you'll be reading it here:

hello friends,

dan had an idea a while back and i think it's a great one, so i'm going to act on it. i want to make a stamp so i can stamp all my money. currency travels through many hands, and consumerism is one of the few things we all have in common in this country. particularly with the holiday season upon us, consumerism will be reaching its yearly peak as people put thoughts of the war and the depressing
election results aside and spend spend spend! so it's gonna say something like:

PLEASE SPEND THIS ON PEACE
or
TRUE PATRIOTS SPEND MONEY ON PEACE

EDIT: or, suggested by an acquaintence last night, PATRIOTS INVEST IN PEACE

you get the gist. i want any input you may have on the actual slogan. and, if you like the idea, i encourage you to order a stamp too. i found a website where you can customize a stamp for $3.99, or $6.99 for a self-inking one. i'm sure there's shipping to tack on, but still, a cheap item for making a strong message.

also along these lines ... i have some holiday work party thing next month, and there's a grab bag gift involved. i originally thought of getting some glass-mosaic item (photo frame, mirror, or set of coasters) from the woman in town who has a shop, as i'd much rather support a craftsperson than some outsourced labor thing. but her stuff is out of the alloted budget ($25). if you know anyone who
makes stuff that would be suitable for a coworker gift, please pass on suggestions. a home-item might be the best theme.
