i was tagged by
eloe , and this turned into a rather interesting exercise.
List seven songs you are into right now. No matter what the genre, whether they have words, or even if they're not any good, but they must be songs you're really enjoying now. Post these instructions in your Livejournal along with your seven songs. Then tag seven other people to see what they're listening to.
1) capital hill - mike west/truckstop honeymoon. you can hear this and some of his other tunes
on his website (see the Truckstop Honeymoon album Christmas in Ocala for this song).
2) penelope killed the mole - ah... where to start on this one? this is a bad song made up by me. penelope is the neighborhood cat we've befriended. i've seen a lot of her lately. a few weeks ago, when we were on our leaf-raking marathon, i came across a soft squishy dead thing, which turned out to be a mole upon closer inspection, in our driveway. i'm fairly certain penelope or another neighborhood cat was the source of mole's demise. anyway, it turned into a sort of chant. what's further, dan has given an eddie murphy does buckwheat (a la old saturday night live skits) spin to this little song, so it's actually turned into "menemene milled duh mole".
3) kiss, kiss, kiss - yoko ono. i heard this on the radio late night when we were driving home from the trey anastasio show in connecicut a few weeks ago. man, did it bring back memories! i used to listen to this album (it's on double fantasy with john lennon) in high school and think i was so obscure. this song is rather tweaked. and has a refrain that will not leave my head.
4) fantastic - tom burris. a catchy number on an old album of
my friend tom's band. i recently stuck this CD in my car, and it's been stuck in my head.
5) do policemen sing - robyn hitchcock. this song has a line that goes "never argue with a raza", or at least that's how it sounds. there is a doctor raza at my work, and whenever i run across his name, this line gets stuck in my head.
6) la, la, lalalala - there is a very creepy little scene with some little kid, a bloody knife, and some very innocent sounding tune in the movie
Deep Red. very infectious. if you dig art-house horror flicks, i recommend this film.
7) california stars - mermaid avenue, billy bragg/wilco. i love this album, and i thank scubatoe_eimi for giving it to me all those years ago. this song has been stuck in my head partially as a result of john's wedding, though it's not the one they played. interesting.
as i said, this was an interesting exercise. i'm not gonna tag anyone, since i've learned no-one on my friends list really appreciates that. but if you wish to post this, i'll enjoy reading it.
