summer music

the summer always seems to be a busy time, and this year has been no exception. i haven't posted in a while, but we've had friends visit and several concerts under our belt, as well as 5 days camping in the rain with nathaniel. he is truly a little chaos-boy: so calm and mellow when things are going nuts all around him.

Ha! Awesome! That license plate picture is so funny. He's really quite expressive - he looks like a different person in almost every picture!

Do you always call him Nathaniel? Do you think you'll shorten it to Nate or let him (or maybe more realistically, his friends) decide?

we do pretty much call him nathaniel (unless we're calling him by one of his many nicknames: winston churchill - when he's really frowning and angry - bubbles, smushy, squirmy, poopster ... you get the idea). i figured nate may come down the road, but it seems that some relatives (my mom) and friends have taken to calling him that already. it may have been misleading that when we were sending out the initial update emails on his hospital status, we referred to him as nate once or twice. it's certainly shorter to type, but i now take the extra time to type out his whole name, because that's what we call him.

oh yeah, my dad calls him nati. which is cute, but usually we end up calling him "nati dreads" with a jamaican accent.

What a cute little monkey! These pictures are super cute. I love seeing him out and about and in nature. I see what you mean -- he does not appear easily ruffled.

By the way, thank you so much for the lovely birthday presents. The magnets and bike bell are all just perfect, and totally cute. :x

he is a nature-boy for sure. if he's getting all fussy and whiny, i can step outside with him and he's instantly mesmerized by his new environment.

so glad you liked the presents. i usually aim for "functional yet decorative".

i saw an ad for the chicago renegade craft fair and marveled as to how it's already been a year soon since i visited. summer is going by so fast - i can;t believe it will be august tomorrow!

That's great that y'all went to Falcon Ridge. A friend worked there and told me it was the worst clean-up she'd ever seen after that weather. Stanley made it through his first Grey Fox. I was quite apprehensive of festival camping with the lil man and the heat and humidity didn't help but he did great. We get a lot of good free music up here -- last wed took him to hear some big band swing near the capital and then thurs War down by the river. Our summer ends with Rhythm and Roots Festival in Charlestown RI Labor Day weekend. It'll be especially sad to come home from that because afterwards Stan starts daycare and I'll be returning to work.

yeah, it looked like a 3rd world country after a natural disaster. have you seen some of the footage on youtube? the rumors are that there may not be a falcon ridge next year, but i think it's too early to tell. if it is cancelled, though, then maybe we'll do grey fox instead. i keep hearing about it & it sounds great, but vacation time is tight and it's not very feasible for us to do both.

yeah, i wasn't sure how ours would handle the elements, either, but he did great. it's amazing how true it is - their needs are rather simple right now.

i was pretty worried about starting daycare/work, but it's working out okay. nathaniel is good with other people, which really helps set my mind at ease. the pumping/milk thing has been the most annoying part of it, really. i feel for you - it's a weird shift to make. good luck!
