The Completely Unreliable Guide to Keating!

Sep 11, 2008 10:59

I can't believe I actually did this - but I did, so I might as well post it. I don't guarantee all of it is accurate, but it's basically the full lyrics from Keating! (from the web) with notes about the Australian political and cultural references within. Mainly for the benefit of pinglederry *g*. Corrections/additions welcome.

Who da man? )

NEVER UNDERESTIMATE A MUSICAL TRAGIC!

Speaking of which - did you see your David concert yet? I still have no idea where he's playing - haven't seen anything listed :)

OMG *hugs you* This is so made of awesome. :D I think I'll copy the lyrics into the "Lyrics" section of each song on iTunes so I can read the descriptions on my iPod while I listen. *bounces* Well, after I get some sleep, that is. Stupid time difference. *grumble* There were a couple bits I still wasn't quite sure about (I don't know any of the acronyms in the beginning of "Arse End of the Earth", for example), and some interesting parallels/contrasts between our political/party system and yours, but I'm sure I can probably Google stuff. I can't thank you enough! And now I have all the lyrics so I can sing in the car. Nifty. :D

Cool - glad you liked. I admit, I had to look some of the specifics up, because I only have the vaguest memory of some of the Keating stuff XD

Many thanks. There was quite a bit there I wasn't 100% on.

My parents said that Gareth Evans was called "Gareth Gareth" as a reference to Boutros Boutros-Ghali, because he apparently had his eye on the Secretary-General's position.

I was wondering whether Melbournites would relate to songs like 'Redfern', because while I know the names of a few Melbourne suburbs, I have no idea about their character, proximity to the CBD, etc.

I didn't know that about Gareth Evans at all, although I've now double checked it on Wikipedia - I'll put it in *g*
