Cat-Bath Day-- (my Spring Cleaning)

Mar 21, 2009 10:31

Ok, so yesterday I took the plunge and decided it was time to wrastle with the critters, immerse them in some H20 and cat shampoo and clean off the poop that has been accumulating on Kaze's butt. I hate to admit it, but he has become too fat (maybe 23 lb.s now?) to clean himself properly, so I am probably going to have to put him on a diet-- which will be very hard considering there are two of them and Kami is quite lithe, (if anything, too thin) and I'm worried he'd end up eating the diet food and vice-versa. They have this cute habit of bowl-switching half way through their dinners...

Anyway so Kaze, despite being a schitzo normally, is relatively easy to calm down in the bath; if I kiss his head enough and talk to him in a sweet voice, he seems all happy to at least be getting the attention. Kami, on the other hand, who is normally very well-adjusted, comes to believe that I am trying to drown him and throws all manner of fits, throw-triple sauw-cows, and such-- it's really hard for one person to do, hold and bathe at the same time. It was easier when I had a shower with doors because then they can cling to the corner but they know, ultimately, there's no escape. Eventually I calmed him down, too-- he likes to be in a standing up on his back legs position, and once he gets the full effect of the warm water all over him, I guess that soothes him enough to calm down. I even got a couple reciprocal licks as he thought my grooming perhaps not quite up to snuff, either.

So then they hated me for a few hours and wouldn't even let me brush them and showed little interest in the cat grass I got them as bribery. I am just really hoping that weight is Kaze's only problem, and that he isn't bloated for some other reason, like an obstruction or urinary tract disease, though he doesn't seem to be behaving as such.

Happy Oastara, everyone! The birds here are certainly happy about it; I can hear the little ones' tweets (the real ones, not electronic) in the mornings, they are getting rowdy out there!
