People mentioned needing a detailed list of what happened, so I developed this timeline. Please let me know what you think (BTW, the Word Table I set up is much neater).
  • 3/21/03 - PC Purchased
  • Late May - PC fails to function properly: Corrupted Programs, Constant Reboots, USB fails, System32 errors; can't use repair option as BIOS password never given.
  • Early June - Several calls made to Brighton CompUSA - no answer or response
  • Late June-Early July - Performed several Clean Installs - problems persist
  • 7/18/03 - PC brought in to Brighton CompUSA - estimate of 7/25/03 given; clerk dismisses idea of Hardware Problem, insists on Poor Driver Installation
  • 7/25/03 - Called Brighton CompUSA about repairs - not ready on time, promised call when done
  • 8/1/03 - Called Brighton CompUSA about repairs - not ready, promised call when done
  • 8/6/03 - Date Brighton CompUSA lists as completing repairs - no call is made
  • 8/20/03 - Picked up PC after calling Brighton CompUSA myself; no call is ever received, Unable to find problems (save for registry), Hard Drive is deemed OK
  • Early September - Called Brighton CompUSA about further possibilities for PC not working - after initial call, no answers or responses
  • Mid Sept.-Late Oct. - PC still not functioning; Unsure how to proceed since CompUSA found PC OK
  • 11/4/03 - Attempt to fix PC for first time since brought into Brighton CompUSA. After being brought in for repairs, PC no longer recognizes 2nd Hard Drive;
    Called Brighton CompUSA - no response
  • Mid Nov.-Early Feb. - Attempts to fix PC halted; PC still not functioning
  • 2/13/04 - Start attempts to get PC to recognize secondary Hard Drive: attempts fail
  • 2/17/04 - Had to reformat second Hard Drive to get PC to recognize it: 10 GB of files erased.
  • 2/21/04 - Restart attempts to fix PC - suspect faulty power supply.
  • 2/24/04 - New Power Supply shipped (Antec 480W True Blue).
  • 2/27/04 - New Power Supply Installed.
  • 2/28/04-3/2/04 - Several Clean Installs Performed; same problems persist
  • 3/3/04 - Find Microsoft article on problem - confirms suspicion of faulty hardware
  • 3/6/04 -3/12/04 - Several Clean Installs Performed; Nortons WinDoctor & DiskDoctor run several times; Disk Doctor finds repeated problems on Primary Hard Drive
  • 3/13/04 - PC brought in to Brighton CompUSA for repairs; discussed Hard Drive as problem - estimate of 3/20/04 given
  • 3/20/04 - Called Brighton CompUSA about repairs - not ready on time, promised call when done
  • 3/21/04 - PC IS NOW ONE YEAR OLD - IN THAT TIME, IT HAS WORKED LESS THAN 3 MONTHS
  • 3/26/04 - Called Brighton CompUSA about repairs told faulty Hard Drive is problem
  • 4/2/04 - Brighton CompUSA calls - need one week to find Hard Drive replacement
  • 4/8/04 - Called Brighton CompUSA about repairs - promised call in two days
  • 4/9/04 - Brighton CompUSA calls to inform PC is ready
  • 4/10/04 - Picked up PC - receipt only mentions faulty Hard Drive as fixed problem;
  • Inspected PC after noticing messy cabling, found: innumerable scratches, torn/missing gaskets, replaced thumbscrew, speaker/MoBo connection unhooked, Hard Drive replaced with non 8MB-cache version; back of floppy drive torn off, power supply replaced with lesser 350W version;
    Called Brighton CompUSA - put on hold, then disconnected, then no answer;
    Left Message with Brighton CompUSAs manager to call back by 4/12/04
  • 4/12/04 @ 3:23pm - Received call from Brighton CompUSAs tech who worked on PC claims had to replace Power Supply as it was faulty (no mention of faulty power supply made on receipt) & didn't realize replacement was a lesser version;
    Asked for new off-the shelf parts - promised call back after talk with manager
  • 4/12/04 @ 4:57pm - Left message with Brighton CompUSAs manager - no response received
  • 4/14/04 @ 12:17pm - Left message with manager stating I was coming in today to pick up the power supply & floppy drive; asked for call back in 2 hours
