There's also the controversy about Starbuck being a woman, too. Dirk Benedict (the original Starbuck) wanked long and heartily about it. Might be funny to have Sheldon argue that the very special Starbuck/Apollo friendship in original BSG was warped by adding the element of sexuality by making Starbuck a woman in the series reboot. I could definitely see Sheldon being a BSG purist and preferring the original.
THANK YOU! This seems perfect, I'll definitely consider this. (I might steal this almost word-for-word from you, if you don't mind.) I actually might use a few of the things you listed.
I think Sheldon would have issue not with Starbuck's gender switch, but with what he would perceive as the only (and insubstantial) purpose: sexing with Apollo.
I'm pretty sure they just switched Boomer for more gender diversity in the cast. There was like maybe one woman in the original series? (At least one MAIN woman, that I can recall).
And dude? The towel picture? I know it makes me sound completely shallow but it may be the reason why I gave BSG a chance again (after not falling in love with it at first). ME = SO SHALLOW.
Honestly, I wasn't aware until now that Boomer was a man in the original series. I know so little about his part in the original canon that I can't say for certain. (Starbuck and Apollo were comrades in the original canon, best friends, so making Starbuck a woman in the new series changed the dynamic of the relationship. I don't know whether any relationship changes occurred because of the switch with Boomer.)
Boomer's role in the new series, however, is the Cylon who chooses to be human. She is the first Cylon to choose to live among humans as though no difference exists between them. She has a miracle child with Helo, a little girl named Hera, who becomes the Mitochondrial EveIf you want more information, I'm happy to ramble about BSG for days

If you ever get a chance, watch the original BSG miniseries. It's the FUNNIEST thing ever. It's so bad it hurts deep inside. Plus disco dancing!
P.S. I'm just going to say that I LOVE Kara and while I can see Sheldon arguing that she's only there for the sexings, he'd eventually have to acknowledge her BAMFyness (is that even close to a word). Hello, Arrow of Athena! Hello, Caprica Rescue! Hello, blowing up the resurrection ship and then going off to assassinate Cain (even it's didn't happen)! Hello, every dogfight in space!
Sorry, C, for continuing to geek in your LJ. *slinks away in shame*
You could also have Sheldon rant that while "Starbuck" and "Apollo" are actual names in original BSG, in the reboot they're just pilot call names and 99% of the time S+A are referred to as Kara and Lee. I could see that driving Sheldon nutso.
I know, right? That is one seriously bitter man who can't get over the fact that the BSG reboot was much more successful and critically acclaimed than the original.
You should watch it! It's pretty freaking amazing. It's definitely not as much of a space opera as one would think. Instead, it's very character-driven.

Here is Dirk Benedict's rant about the new Starbuck. What an idiot.
Okay, I'll stop geeking all over your LJ. ;)
