PC troubles...

I have a problem... I installed Windows XP last night (no, thats not the problem) on a clean partition having deleted my old C drive and recreated it so there's nothing there. However, any time I press the CTRL key, the cursor moves tot he begining of the next word. You can imagine how hard it makes it to use shortcuts such as Ctrl+C or Ctrl+V. Do any of you know or know someone who knows what is going on and how to stop it? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
