So where was I.
Okay - so Shaun and I spent two weeks on a whistlestop tour of all the Travelodges, Premier Hotels, Camping Parks and Museums we spent ages hopping around in the old campervan. Shaun did a lot of sight seeing, and heard a lot of the interesting tales about my past - I wanted to be as open and honest as possible with him.
Conversations went roughly like this.
"So your best mate is an alien?"
"Sort of."
"And his other half is from another Universe."
"Pretty much"
"And you all work for a secret company that protects the world from supernatural threats"
"Yeah but I just temp."
"But you're not."
"Not what?"
"Alien... or.... from another Universe or anything"
"No."
"Well that's one thing then. Okay."
"What do you mean okay?"
"Do you want KFC for lunch or Maccy Ds?"
I love him. He's so laid back he gets nose bleeds when he goes to bed.
When we got back, having found literally no trace of my friends, Pete was tearing his hair out.
The blackboard was updated as follows:
1) "Victim: Cassandra Anaxarchos. Born 01/05/1979. Main residence: 24 Acacia Avenue, Manchester; Died: 101 Roman Road, Bethnal Green, 9.01PM 1/10/10. Age 31. Length of time at Torchwood - 1 year. Reported cause of death: blunt force trauma, rear skull, death instant."Someone bring me the coroner. Dead or alive. I don't care.
Dr Sonia Chowdry - Notes on Coroner's Report.
- Blunt force trauma, back of cranium, right oc/l - backed up by video evidence.
- Death instant, further intracranial penetration - glass - analysis suggests industrial grade - backed up by video evidence.
- Anomalous factors - higher than expected levels of adrenaline in system, high levels of radiation
- An extra heart! presumed useless mutation at birth by coroner - no medical records found to verify findings
- Don't panic Pete I'm going to get the body and do my own assessment
2) "Scotland Yard Prime suspect: Rose Tyler. Arresting Evidence: Video." Get copy now! By any means!- Video set up in victim's flat shows argument between Rose and CA. Struggle ensues. Victim is pushed. Victim falls upon coffee table. Rose leaves. (well it's hardly cast iron)
3) "Results of 'ugly scan' = 24.100.0.1.42." - Someone get me the bloody Doctor NOW!
4) "Reason for concern 1: Rose has confessed." - someone tell me the brain slug didn't get out again. Confession received, seems genuine.
5) "Reason for concern 2: the letter." backed up by evidence but there must be more to it.
6) "Reason for concern 3: Someone nicked the body" !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! FIND IT. NOW
I know what conclusions I came to. I also wondered whether the Doctor had come to the same, and whether that was the real reason they had gone awol. Afterall, I pointed out to Pete,
"You assumed that the Ugly reading meant the Doctor didn't you."
"Yeah Timelord."
"Yeah BUT, he hasn't flagged up as 42 since he's been here Pete. Half one, half the other. You're forgetting, as far as that machine is concerned he's a 1. Good old fashioned human mate."
