Want to know something funny? I watched DBZ in college so I know exactly what you're talking about. :) And yes, Lucy and Jack's parallels are deliberate.
I feel stupid, but what are two things that make up the "both" that Jack can have? Torchwood and Ianto? Love and security?
No, no, don't feel stupid. I left this very open to interpretation. For me, Jack was looking for love, a lasting love, but always thought because of the way he is, it would be denied to him. He also wanted acceptance of what he was, but to be accepted as immortal, he was sure love would be denied than because who could love a fixed point? -raises hand- LOL
you don't patronize your reader with simple summaries of the characters' inner struggles or emotions, so when I don't know what I'm supposed to get I KNOW it's a me thing and I'm usually afraid to ask. XDA friend of mine (who steered me towards using the flashbacks) summed it for me the best: "readers aren't stupid. You could draw your fic with the 16 ( ... )
