My dad and I are in Ecuador and are still trying to get used to things like the altitude and our apartment. We've generally gotten things sorted out and have cooked multiple times in our kitchen since we got here. All those times, the food came out well, but dinner tonight could only be described as a complete cooking fail. (We were trying to make pizza...the key word being trying...)
First, we couldn't find a pan to cook the pizza on, the only thing we found was a cookie sheet that was smaller than the pizza crust we got at the Supermaxi. Then, we couldn't figure out how to work the oven. Well, I guess it was more than we knew how to work the oven, but it just wouldn't turn on. We finally decided that we were going to look up a way to cook pizza on the stove top. My dad found directions that included a cast iron skillet and warned us that it wouldn't cook evenly and some parts would burn (though according to the person who wrote those directions, the burnt parts are the best...?). We decided to try it with our too small cookie sheet and it turned out horribly. Pretty much all of the crust, except for the outer inch or so, was burnt all the way through. We tried to eat the outside portions and the cheese that we scraped off of the center, but we both agreed that that was one of the, if not the most, disgusting thing either of us has ever eaten. So we gave up and had cookies instead.
Anyway, that was our big misadventure for the day, and even now, after about 4 hours, the apartment still smells like burnt pizza... It's actually kind of disgusting...
