We arrived in Quito, Ecuador about 2 hours ago (it's now 1 in the morning here). Our flight out of Atlanta was took off late because of the weather and we had to wait on the plane for an extra hour or so before we were finally cleared for take off.
When we finally landed here, they were trying to get us out as fast as possible since the plane was turning around and heading straight back to Atlanta when we got off and because the airport was closing down in 30 minutes. Of course, anyone who's been on an airplane before knows that that isn't possible. It kind of reminded me of the episode of Firefly when they had all the cattle in the cargo bay and Mal said something along the lines of "have you ever seen a herd of cattle stampede when they've got no place to go? It's kind of like a meat grinder." Anyway...
Our hotel room is very weird, and let's just say it's not my style. There are birds painted on the walls along with arches and ionic columns. We're not staying here long though, since we're leaving for the airport a little after 10 tomorrow morning to go to Cuenca.
The only real interesting thing that's happened so far is that I now understand how much of a difference a few thousand feet of altitude makes. When we got into the terminal, it felt like there was a weight on my chest pushing down and I couldn't breathe in all the way since there wasn't enough air to breathe.
Anyway, just felt like posting quickly before I try to read a few pages of my book before I collapse.
