Sailin' (Out) With Palin

Dec 04, 2008 14:07

The company I write the sports column and op-ed pieces for recently merged with two major magazines, The Advocate and Out, and their respective websites, and therefore they are discontinuing op-eds on GayWired, the main site that publishes my pieces (along with one or two dozen subsidiary niche websites that also carry them) so as not to compete with their other sites, which are more appropriate for political discourse. I will continue to write the weekly sports gossip column on GayWired, as they intend to make it more of an entertainment website, but my editor mentioned he would be interested in having me contribute op-eds to the other sites in the future, which I will definitely take him up on (it would be a good step forward for my fledgling side career).

Luckily the op-ed that turned out to be my last for this site is one I had particular fun writing, and since I have tended to focus on issues of women in politics in many to most of my op-eds (not on purpose, it just turned out to be a topic I had a lot to say about) I see it as a fitting conclusion for my first op-ed-writing stint! It's my little offer of a life jacket for Sarah Palin, imagining her potential for comeback by comparing her with that true American comeback kid, Britney Spears.

Enjoy.
