So I missed a bunch of days with this. So many that I decided *not* to do a giant clump of them together as it would be too much work for me. Sorry. But I am going to finish this!
Favorite female-driven show
Big Love
I had to pick Big Love, largely because even though the later seasons were uneven at points, I still would list this as one of my favorite shows of all time. First of all, season one (and other points later on) is a masterclass in how to write exposition without it feeling like exposition. The world is dealt with so sensitively, without judgement or praise...just fairly and honestly. (I want to note here that I am aware that the world of the Hendricksons doesn't reflect the world of actual Mormons or polygamists, but I am also aware that it is well researched and inspired by the experiences of real people). Um, anyway, what especially drew me in were the characters and while there are some excellent and special male characters (I love me some Alby), it really is about the women for me. I mean, honestly, I was pretty meh on Bill, but the women on screen were always gripping. And there were so many of them! Of course, the wives, Margene, Barb and Nicki. But also Sarah, Lois, Adaleen, Wanda, Rhonda, Heather, Pam, Lura, Ana, Selma, Kathy. Okay, I had to look up some of these names but still. For a patriarchal society, they sure are overrun with fierce ladies. I really had to cheer that Barb's season 5 plot was about demanding spiritual power for women.
