Near and Far Destinations

This year (well next year technically) I have decided I am going to take a real holiday.  Not just take some time off and sit around the house or the like, but actually go somewhere I haven't been before, and have a good time doing it.

The things that come to mind are New Zealand to go skiiing and the Northern Territory to see Kakadu, Uluru etc.

I think i mentioned this before - avoid the desert. Well, go once. But its all the same once you've seen a few hectares of the stuff. The Kimberley, Pilbara and kakadu are all very scenic, though. Ayers Rock is impressive. Pity most of these places are surrounded by desert, or a $600 airfare away.

You could also consider some of the south east asian countries like Indonesia (Bali only obviously), Thailand, Malaysia and Vietnam, all of which are exceedingly beautiful and cheap places to have a vacation.

just in regards to seeing australia; if you want to do the big city thing i can definitely recommend melbourne as a fun place to be :)
