Yawn .. grumble

I'm sitting here watching the water rise in my yard and laughing at the objects skirting across the water. I have about 3 feet or so of water right now from heavy thunderstorms which are pounding the area and have been since around 10 p.m. I woke up around 1 a.m. and took a peek out of the window. The rain was coming down in sheets and I could hear a light tapping on my roof indicating small hail. Being no stranger to water rising quickly, I doned the keds, rolled up my pants, threw on a baseball cap and moved my car. At this time you could still see the grass in my yard and water was beginning to pool. My neighbor's yard which is lower looked like a lake which meant that water would soon be leveling off into my yard. No doubt I looked like a gazzelle prancing through the pooling water and moving as fast as I could as the lightening was horrible.

An hour later I thought to myself, great, I just purchased a brand new self-propelled push lawnmower which is now sitting in about a foot of water under my carport. So off I went again in the pouring rain to fetch the mower and pull that up to the porch. I tried to snatch an ice chest that floated by, but that was the second time I got drenched and basically said fook it.

It is now 3:30 or so a.m. mind you, and the water has come up at least two more feet. We've had a break in the drenching rain but I'm awaiting round 3 as another line of heavy thunderstorms is approaching the area.

You know what surprised me the most? The lack of fear I had to protect my home by wading out in the water to get a stinking lawnmower with little to no thought of snakes! As for the garbage cans, my logs which border my carport and anything else that is floating around, it will just have to wait until the water goes down. Fingers crossed we've seen the worst of the rain this morning.
