Awaiting spring

The month of March in the south was made for kite flying. I searched the local stores for a kite and pretty much came up empty handed. I would guess it is too early in the season for kite flying. I picked up my boys (Duke the dane and Prince the boxer) and off we went to Toys R Us. I found a nifty kite that was a bright orange with a sun splash on it and thought to myself "perfect". I had packed a small lunch for me and the guys and decided the only place to go on a day like today is City Park in New Orleans.

The boys loved the drive through the city streets, tongues lagging in the wind with their heads hanging out of the window. When we reached City Park they were running back and forth across the back of my Nissan Versa and can I tell ya, my car was swaying a bit with the weight of those two hounds. They couldn't wait to leap out of the car and explore the surroundings.

The wind was perfect and the dogs enjoyed romping and rolling in the grass while I sat back and flew my kite. We ate our lunch and I took them over to the lakes to chase the ducks and geese. Duke thought he was on a hunting expedition, while Prince was a tad bit scared of the geese. I would be too. They can be quite intimidating with that "honk" and their wing span. There were a few others out enjoying the day and a little boy wanted to ride Duke thinking it was a small pony I suppose. Not surprising. All the children want to ride him! So with his father's permission, I let him sit on Duke and walked him around. You would have thought this child just landed in Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory.

The drive home was quiet as both of my boys decided it was nap time. When we arrived at the farm it was hard for me to let them go. Josh's father was there with a big hug for me and his mother would not let me leave without her cherry dump and some homemade biscuits.

On my way home I stopped at Wal-Mart and picked up my favorite flowers which are daisies. Today was a lovely day and to savor the memory a little longer I thought I would smile back at some daisies smiling at me.
