Where I watch Revolutionary Girl Utena, Episode 7

You know, I find Miki and Juri to be very interesting foils to one another. On the surface they're very similar people, expert fencers, highly cultured, very popular, the works, but you dig a little bit, and you see that they are in fact opposites; Miki, as has been established, lives in an idealized world and has no real ideals of his own. Juri, on the other hand, proclaims that there are no miracles, that she's out to prove that the Rose Bride does not grant the power to revolutionize the world, and reacts violently to anything that reminds her of how her beliefs in miracles were betrayed in the first place. By the way, I totally called that Juri was in love with the girl and not the boy. I had a feeling somehow, you know?

Also, Miki was remarkably calm as Touga did his knife throwing bit. Possibly a statement about how Miki doesn't feel the least bit threatened by Touga? And yep, the shadow play definitely confirmed that Juri's attitude really is just sour grapes. As for the song that played during the duel, it was all about angels and light and darkness and androgyny, which mostly works pretty well for an episode about believing in miracles. And what a miracle it was that saved Utena from defeat! Seriously, how did that sword go down the middle of Juri's rose, without cutting her, I'll never figure out.

And it seems that next episode, we're in for a freaky-friday scenario brought upon by curry! Now that's a curry based episode I can get behind!
