Though he lives a life blessed, Commissioner Godspeed hardly lives a life worth coveting. Disfigured from birth, he wears a mask over his face in the presence of others. The mask, and rumors of what may be beneath, earned him a frightening reputation while he served as a captain during The Sleep of the Gods. It was during his fifteenth battle that Godspeed was fatally wounded and encountered death in an unconventionally personal way. Through a stroke of luck or fate, Godspeed was able to release the lower god of Death by trading the last of his life. Upon its release, Death offered Godspeed a bargain. In return for the ability to remain in the land of the living, Godspeed now takes on the role of The Ferryman, whose task it is to open and close the gates to the Afterworld.
