Where has the time gone? My son's been back to school for almost 2 months already. Can anyone tell me why his school would have the 1st school conference barely a month after school started? Better yet, why is the 2nd conference just 3 or 4 weeks before the end of the school year?
The 1st conference is so early that kids like my son have barely managed to get used to the routine. This means he's either been really withdrawn, trying to take in all the new stuff, or he's having meltdowns on a regular basis trying to deal with all the new stuff.
The 2nd conference is so late, I worry that if he has any issues that need to be addressed before transitioning to a new grade, there won't be enough time to get a plan in place to help him cope. Urgh! I've never known them to have the 2nd conference so late in the school year. Usually, it occurs in mid to late April.
Despite my above rant, Matthew's 1st conference actually went quite well. I don't think I have ever seen he adjust so well to a new teacher. It's amazing what a well thought out IEP (Individual Education Program, for those of you not in the know)can do. The school's communication specialist was practically giddy about how much progress Matthew has made in the last year. :)
