Wedding ideas

So I've been working on wedding ideas. I'm working on a tight budget (who isn't these days?) and I put together a few ideas for John, so he could decide what he does and doesn't want to go with. Thought I'd get a few other opinions while I'm at it, if anybody is interested. PICTURE HEAVY UNDER THE CUT!

Heya! You've got some great ideas here! My personal experience with weddings is fairly recent (last October), so I'll give you some thoughts, tips, and comments about what you've got here.

Wedding theme: As long as you don't have John in a trench coat holding a portable radio over his head ala Say Anything :p

Wedding colors: Like the combo! Sharp, snappy, and you can have a lot of variation depending on which colors are brought out more.

Decor: Linens can get expensive, that is my only caution. Otherwise the place settings look nice, simple, and classy.

Wedding Attire:
-Bridesmaids: I like the dresses! Nice, simple, and usable more than once!

-Groomsmen: Black on black is nice, especially with the red tie and kerchief.

Caution!! Matching colors can be tricky (red of dresses with red of groomsmen). Sometimes it's easier to be complimentary.

Groom: I'd go with a cream tie or white paisley. White by itself can look very plain, though an unfettered look may be what you're going for.

Idea: If you're still having trouble with your dress, you and John could try to emulate a favorite movie couple

Cake: I super dig the cupcake tower! Be wary of stacking cakes if you go that route, and please have it all be the same flavor!

LOVE the save the date concert tickets!

Wedding cocktail: I'd only use this idea if you can come up with something stellar. I may have an idea. Amy's brother, Jason, and I came up with a drink with ingredients of MGM. If Gran Marinier was added, it would be an MGM Grand. Unfortunately, I can't think of the second M ingredient. Boo. Lemme know what you like, and perhaps genius will strike.

Wedding pictures: I really like the polaroid idea, it will make great memories!

Location and food will probably be your two most expensive line items. At least they were for ours. If you can find an inexpensive location, that will leave you with more money to do cool things like cars, etc.

Hope this helps!

Thank you!

Don't I know it. :-/ A lot of it will depend on where I choose for my location, but I've heard in the long run, for a smaller wedding things like plates and napkins are cheaper to buy than rent. Plus, then you have the plates and napkins. This might be one of the first things I cut for cost though. Because really, who remembers the color of the plates at the last wedding they went to? I do like those clear red plates though. Might see what IKEA has to offer. :)

Idea: If you're still having trouble with your dress, you and John could try to emulate a favorite movie couple

I've been working really hard designing my own dress, but after working a lot of this out with John and my mom, I don't know how much it will match anymore. We'll see.

Caution!! Matching colors can be tricky (red of dresses with red of groomsmen). Sometimes it's easier to be complimentary.

Reds are the worst too. I think I can say, without exaggeration, that there are somewhere in the neighborhood of 50 quadrabajillion shades of red. My mom and John both mentioned that I might want to go with a red wedding dress, and the first thing I thought of was "...but I'll clash with my bridesmaids!" :-P I think being there's black lace covering the bridesmaid dresses, so long as we just stick with the tie on the groomsmen, instead of doing a red vest, it shouldn't be too obvious if they clash a bit.

I'd go with a cream tie or white paisley. White by itself can look very plain

If I go with my dress how it's planned now, it's going to be and off white/cream color. I'd probably match John's tie to my dress. You're right, plain bright white can be a little blegh.

Cake: I super dig the cupcake tower!

So far you and I are the only ones!

LOVE the save the date concert tickets!

Not sure if I should go with that or these being no matter what I do, I know it's going to be in Vegas:

I'd only use this idea if you can come up with something stellar.

I think this is going to be one of those things for me where I'll look back and think "Well, it SEEMED like a good idea at the time. I heard a good way to scale down on the cost of alcohol is to have one signature cocktail, and have the wine and beer flowing freely so people don't notice the lack of hard alcohol. Not sure if I'll go that route, but I still like the idea of the signature cocktail.

I think this is going to be one of those things where we're going to have to sit down with a notepad, a pen, and a lot of alcohol and just go to town. ...actually skip the pen and the notepad and that seems like a good idea anyway. ;-)

If Gran Marinier was added, it would be an MGM Grand. Unfortunately, I can't think of the second M ingredient

I want to guess Midori because it's green like the MGM.

If you do remember the ingredients, let me know! I always love to try a new mix drink.

Lemme know what you like, and perhaps genius will strike.

I like fruity drinks with rum, gin, or tequila and John likes carbonated drinks with whiskey or flavored vodkas. I'm sure there's a compromise waiting to happen.

Location and food will probably be your two most expensive line items

Those are the two I'm worried about most. We're heading out to Las Vegas in June to meet up with friends, and I'm going to scout out places then. I have a few in mind that are within my budget, so we'll see what happens. I'm optimistic.

Thank you so much for all of your advice!
