Wedding ideas

So I've been working on wedding ideas. I'm working on a tight budget (who isn't these days?) and I put together a few ideas for John, so he could decide what he does and doesn't want to go with. Thought I'd get a few other opinions while I'm at it, if anybody is interested. PICTURE HEAVY UNDER THE CUT!

Theme: The idea of this one is a romantic movie themed. Hollywood promotes the idea of happily ever after, and that's an idea I'd like present on our wedding day. It'd be closer to a traditional themed wedding, with a nice sit down dinner, and either a band or a DJ playing music we can dance to. Dressy event!

Colors: Black, red, and white.

Decour: I like the look of something like this:

For table settings we could do tealights floating in jars with some glass rocks at the bottom. They're super cheap and easy to assemble, but really pretty. Something like this:

or this

I don't want anything that's going to be in peoples way. We can also place red and black candies out in clear dishes for people to nom on.

Place settings can be the names of movies we both like, or famous couples (but that last one could be seen as derivative of Ken and Jerry's wedding).

No matter what we do, I want to stay away from lavish amounts of floral. Or almost any floral really. Aside from being outrageously expensive, I’m really not a huge fan of flowers everywhere. I think a beautiful room can be achieved with fabrics, ribbon, and very minimal floral.

Attire: Girls in cocktail dresses, guys in smooth tuxes. Just the wedding party of course, I think enforcing a dress code on our wedding guests would be super bridezilla of me :-/

I love these for bridesmaid dresses. I think they’re so pretty, and should be flattering enough on whomever I choose. If they’re like me and don’t like their arms, a nice cardigan would still look really cute with it. I think I also want one for myself just to have…

For the guys, I like black tuxes with black shirts and a red tie. I don’t know why, I just don’t like the white shirts with the red tie. It makes me think magician. Plus the black on black just looks so smooth.

(I hate that boutonniere though, I’d choose something else, obviously.)

For my groom, I’m thinking white tie instead. Hey, you have to stand out in some way, right? And I think it looks really classy.

Still trying to figure out my dress. :-/

Cake: I just want to do something really simple. I like the way this looks, but I think we can really one up it.

If we went round instead of square, we could get away with not using fondant (which can be expensive, and I’ve heard bad things about the taste) and instead just frost it regularly with white frosting, and wrap black ribbon around the bottom. Roses should be pretty cheap for the filler, and voila! Easy cheap cake. …I hope. :-/

Then there’s always my cupcake tower idea :-)

Maybe not quite right with the theme though.

Invites: I found these tickets for Save the Dates. Custom Concert Tickets

We can change the wording however we want, obviously. There are also other colors. Plus you can order magnet backings so people will actually put them on their fridge and remember it, and not, you know, chuck it like most people do with STD's (worst wedding acronym EVER)

For the actual invites though, I want to go a little more traditional. I found these on etsy.

They’re not exactly what I’m looking for though. I like the overall font, and the image, just not how the invites are assembled. I think once I’m able to figure out the style of invites I want, I can have Mimi do a similar design for me.

Other ideas:

I really want a super8 camera. I found this website Layer Cake Films and I really like the idea of it. I think it’s something we might be able to achieve ourselves, or at least find somebody we know who can help us. Super 8 cameras are pretty cheap on eBay too. It just a matter of finding a good one at a good deal.

I want to come up with our own cocktail for the wedding. Something that fits with the theme, is delicious, and will get me three sheets to the wind. Everybody loves a drunken bride, right? ;-)

I also really want to set up a Polaroid area. The idea is you set up a sheet, or backdrop or something, and have somebody with a Polaroid camera take pictures of people. When it develops, it’s pasted in the album and people sign it. Like this:

I’d like to maybe put a box of props (hats, boas, glasses, etc) out for people too so we can get some silly pics in there too. Make it less boring flipping through, you know?

Classic cars. One of the places I’m looking at getting married Griffin Events Inc has an option of having old sexy classic cars out. Here’s a small pic from their site:

.
I think it’d be an awesome photo op, plus would work well with the overall theme.

That’s all I can think of really. I mean, it’s obviously not completely fleshed out. I’ll have a better idea of what we’re going to do once I pick out a location. I still need to think of food, and hors d'oeuvres, and all that stuff, but this is the basic (and in someways specific) idea of what I want for this theme.
