So I've been checking out this site called Smarterer. Basically the site offers a ton of tests on all kinds of different subjects, skills, and hobbies and then compares your score to everyone else who has taken the test. There are different levels (beginner, familiar, proficient, expert, and master) on each test that you can achieve and badges you can put up on your website or blog for bragging rights. Because the tests are crowd sourced, new questions are constantly being added, which theoretically should keep things interesting. Also, as more and more people discover Smarterer and take the tests, it's possible to be "bumped" out of the upper levels if someone scores higher than you as only 5% of users are allowed to have the master rank. It adds a competitive element to the tests, but while it's a fun way to kill some time, I quickly lose interest. I also felt like the tests weren't necessarily an accurate representation of your knowledge or skills. Each question has a time limit, which increases the stress of the test taker and the likelihood of mistakes, and once you finish reading the question, the time allotted to it is almost up. The speed component definitely skews the results; the faster you can read, the better you're going to do.
