Birdie met my parents back in
June.
Birdie met M's parents shortly after in
July.
Birdie met her maternal aunt and first cousin in
August.
All that remained of the immediate family was my sister's family, which we were finally able to do this past weekend. My sister, her husband and son flew up on Veteran's Day. My parents drove up the same day. Everybody stayed at the same AirBNB that
M's parents used for their October visit and left on Sunday morning, which kept the out of towners together in case of Covid. This was the first time I'd seen my sister since
the 2020 Super Bowl weekend, which is quite easily the longest stretch of our life apart.
As for activities, we met outside a bunch. We hung out in the back yard of the AirBNB on Thursday and then ate takeout from
La Pupuseria on the porch. Birdie enjoyed pieces of a bean and cheese pupusa. Friday we met for blueberry muffins in Rocky River park, then my sister and I hung out in the afternoon before we all got take out from
Greek Village Grille for dinner. We followed that with a lot of family photos. Saturday we went for a short walk in the morning by the Rocky River Nature Center on a cold day. I then popped over when our friends Kelley & Ryan came over for a bit of dinner.
There was a lot of nasal swab tests, and the nephew had a bit of a cough on Saturday so we dialed back contact then just to be on the safe side. Still, it was more than we've had for ages. I wish I could have cooked more, but had to settle for one
baked ziti casserole and one
cheesecake.
I'd like to tell you that my nephew and my daughter hit it off right away, seeing as they're only
seven months apart in age, but the truth is that at this point one is closing in on 18 months and the other is at 10 months and they really didn't interact meaningfully. My nephew tripped over Birdie at one point, and Birdie crawled toward him a few times, but that was pretty much the extent of it. Oh well, there'll be plenty of future chances.
With that, Birdie has met all of her immediate family, meaning grandparents, aunts and first cousins. She's also met one of M's four cousins. I have a lot more than four cousins, some of whom she is tentatively scheduled to meet next year.
