When I hit the
end of the alphabet in my radio encyclopedia project, I really thought I was close to done. Hey, there's no crime in having an opinion. It turns out that the six columns of agate type of bands who were cut from the prior edition is slower going than the encyclopedia itself. Just the letters A-C took 12 weeks, pushing me past the fourth anniversary of this project.
In retrospective, this shouldn't have been a surprise, given that by definition these bands already had failed to reach a minimum threshold of fame. Most of the bands here were one hit wonders, at best. I've recognized some of them, but far more of them were completely unknown to me. It's clear that if I wait until I'm done to post it will be a long time, so I'll post them in chunks. The letters A, B and C make up about 1.5 columns, so we'll start here.
Following this theme, it's probably not a surprise that two more bands joined the list of "could not be found", which is a full 25% over the amount in the entire alphabet. More happily, I also found two more bands I really liked,
Angel City and
Chase. The former was actually a band called Angel from Australia, but the American Angel (also in this section) got there first (and was pretty hilariously not good, by the way), so the Aussies renamed themselves stateside. Chase was a interesting jazz rock outfit with, no joke, four trumpet players, including mastermind Bill Chase. Their three albums were interesting and their third album had a big single that did well, but Bill Chase was killed in a plane crash along with three band members.
