The first week of the last 1/3 of 2019 started and ended up with very small athletic accomplishments. On a side note, I have to say that the September 2019 Eating Well is killing it so far. I still haven't exhausted the recipes in that issue, and one of the soups this week was the best new thing I've made in quite some time.
Sunday, September 1 - After radio M and I went to John & Danita's for their annual Labor Day party with an assortment of tasty foods. John & I teamed up to play cornhole against their nephew and his fiance, and we stomped them both times. We won 21-1 the first time and something like 21-10 the second time. After that we dropped out. M teamed up with the nephew against a team of the fiance and an uncle, and they won by a nice margin.
Monday, September 2 - M and I started Labor Day by taking my aunt and cousin out for brunch. M had never been to
Jack's Deli and I hadn't been this year, so we took her there and exposed her to the wonders of the plates of pickled things. I had a lox and bagel sandwich.
For dinner, M made a lot of tuna salad and we ate sandwiches with some fruit. Weirdly, this is apparently the first time this year that we had tuna salad.
Tuesday, September 3 - The kids soup section of the September 2019 Eating Well had previously offered up the rich
Creamy Tomato Soup with Tortellini. This week we made the
Chicken Enchilada Soup. Within a few bites M and I agreed that we would absolutely make this again. I cooked the chicken in the air fryer.
Wednesday, September 4 - The next recipe from the September 2019 Eating Well was the
Chicken & Quinoa Buddha Bowl. You might ask why a Buddha bowl had chicken in it, but I digress. This came out well enough, and we both enjoyed it, but I don't know that I'd make it again. It was part of the "prep week" section, and I will that I prep the chicken the night before, which worked very well.
Thursday, September 5 - When I got up, I more or less randomly decided to use some of the frozen blueberries my aunt gave me during the
family event in July to make blueberry muffins, which I took to work. My coworkers seemed to appreciate them.
Meanwhile, the crock pot was humming with the
Slow-Cooker Vegetable Stew, which made for a nice quick dinner. We both liked it, and it made plenty of leftovers.
That night I went to a concert at
Now That's Class. To my shock and surprise, they had
Old Style on draft despite our not being in Chicago. I had a few.
Friday, September 6 - M and I went to Swings N Things and played mini-golf. I won by 6 on the Castle course and by 10 on the Lighthouse course. I also had the only hole-in-one on the night. Victory! When we were done, we went to
Humble and split a chicken pesto pizza. We also had a very nice tuna appetizer. It was a nice night.
