This past week and change was delicious. I'm now at 162 days, or one baseball season.
Tuesday, June 4 - One of my most enduring favorites from Eating Well is the
Greek Orzo Stuffed Peppers from the March/April 2009 issue. I was actually surprised to learn that I hadn't already made it this year.
Wednesday, June 5 - M loves tacos of all kinds, so threw some
Chicken Mole Tacos from the May/June 2016 Eating Well into the crock pot before we went to see
Gimme Shelter at the Rock Hall. My only real complaint about tacos is how many bowls have to be cleaned afterwards from all the toppings.
Thursday, June 6 - We had a food truck day at my office, so I got a wrap from the
Nate's Deli truck to supplement my leftover taco fixings. It was just ok, adding a second data point to an opinion first formed after the Cavs victory parade in 2016.
For dinner I made a new recipe from the May 2019 Eating Well,
Crispy Artichokes over Labneh. We both really liked this and will make it again, but almost more importantly this was the first time we used the air fryer that M got as a holiday gift from her family last December. It had been boxed up on a table for the intervening six months, and when I saw how much oil and effort this recipe called for, I thought it would be a good time to try it out. 15 minutes of oil free air frying later, we had crispy artichokes that looked just like the ones in the picture in the magazine.
Friday, June 7 - After a trip the art museum to catch a number of exhibitions, we stopped at
Merwin's Wharf for the
second time this year. It was a lovely night on the patio.
Saturday, June 8 - I took my friend Jazzbo to the
ballgame on Saturday, and had ice cream from Pierre's.
While I was away M and her friend K were painting our screened porch, so I bought them takeout from
Thai Kitchen. Unexpectedly and unusually for the venue, my meal was pretty average.
Sunday, June 9 - We still had lots of tortillas leftover from taco night, so we did taco night again. This time we had
Chipotle-Lime Cauliflower Tacos from the May/June 2017 Eating Well. They came out very well, as it did in
April.
Monday, June 10 - Now that the air fryer was unboxed, it seemed appropriate to use it again. We hit a recipe from the small cookbook that came with it, Spice-rubbed Chicken w/Chimichurri. The spice was very thick over the chicken, which came out nice and crispy. The chimichurri was fine.
We also had the
Honey-Glazed Radishes with Crunchy Seeds from the May/June 2018 Eating Well as a side. M really loves radishes.
Tuesday, June 11 -
Moosewood Favorites offered up another recipe that I had never made before. Technically, I still haven't, as M made the Spring Egg Salad, which we ate on pitas with a little queso fresco leftover from the second taco night. I learned that M really likes egg salad. I believe this is the second time M has cooked this year, but I don't appear to have tracked the first one.
Wednesday, June 12 - We closed with one final new recipe from Eating Well. This time it was the
Black Rice Banh Mi Bowls from the June 2019 Eating Well. This recipe had all sorts of ingredients in it that M enjoys and indeed it turned out to be another success, although I'd probably use normal (and much cheaper) brown rice for future batches.
