I believe this is the first post that didn't include a new recipe, but that's ok because it includes several recipes that are old favorites.
Thursday, April 11 - One of my favorite pasta recipes is the Pasta with Asparagus and Lemon Sauce from the
Moose Favorites cookbook. The asparagus is boiled a bit to make it soft, then thrown in a food processor with lemon juice and assorted other items to make a lovely green sauce.
Friday, April 12 - We hit three different restaurants on Friday night for dinner, dessert and beer. Our original intent was to go to a church fish fry, but all the ones that looked interesting ended comparatively early, so we instead went to
Merwin's Wharf. It was just barely warm enough to sit outside on their extensive patio. I had vegi nachos and split some tacos with M. She did have some fish, so at least we sort of succeeded in our original intent.
Afterwards we stopped at
Mason's Creamery so I could get a couple of scoops of ice cream. M wasn't interested in that dessert, so we went to
Buckeye Beer Engine for a post meal tipple. I accidentally ordered a beer with a 11% ABV, which on top of a long day and the drinks with dinner put me down comparatively early.
Saturday, April 13 - For lunch my aunt and I met DrI in Chagrin Falls at
M Italian. When we went there
last summer we had an excellent meal. This time the food was still good (I had chicken parmesan), but the service was incredibly slow and not terribly competent. I'm not sure if we'll return.
I was at the radio station for telethon in the evening, so I didn't have a sit down dinner.
Sunday, April 14 - I went back to the
Moosewood Favorites for another one of our favorites, the Chilaquiles Casseroles. This can basically be summed up as "vegetarian taco casserole." Like most comfort food, it makes a lot and isn't super healthy (lots of corn chips and cheese) but it tastes great both hot out of the dish and for lunch the next day.
Monday, April 15 - Our recent trend of
quasi-Mexican continued with
Chipotle-Lime Cauliflower Tacos from the May/June 2017 Eating Well. The trick here is the sauce the cauliflower is roasted in, which is a mix of honey, garlic, lime juice, and chipotles in adobo sauce.
Tuesday, April 16 - I made a rather unhealthy salad with the
Chicken & Spring Vegetable Tortellini Salad from the May/June 2018 Eating Well. This is conceptually similar to the
Lemony Linguine with Spring Vegetables I made in March, but the chicken and cheese tortellini makes it somewhat heartier and simultaneously somewhat lighter feeling because tortellini are much smaller than linguine. In any event, I like it a lot.
Wednesday, April 17 - M and I met up with Eli (formerly
rishu73) and Gaela after the Spring Quarter Concert in Oberlin. With late night options limited, we found ourselves at the
The Feve again. I had a falafel sandwich and some tater tots and enjoyed them almost as much as the company.
Also, the concert was excellent, which validates my decision to buy tickets
eight months ago. Jack DeJohnette, Joe Lovano, Esperanza Spalding and Leo Genovese are all very good at what they do, and were clearly having a good time. They may have even been showing off for each other a little. M and I had nearly the same seats I had for
Yo-Yo Ma and Kathryn Stott in 2013, and as with that show I could see every facial expression as the band went at it.
