You Are What You Eat: March 21 through March 28

Mar 28, 2019 21:33

I decided to track leftover nights, because clearly I don't have enough statistical categories in this project. And yes, I went back through the prior posts and added them up. I need help.

Thursday, March 21 - M drove to Columbus after work, so I was on my own. I started by eating leftovers from earlier in the week. Then I was working a radio station event at Mahall's, and after the event I gave in to temptation and had some late night fried chicken, particularly the Cleveland Red variant. Yeah, that was a winner. I'd make grandiose claims about "best fried chicken in Cleveland", but honestly it's not like Cleveland is a friend chicken mecca.

Friday, March 22 - M isn't a fan of anchovies, so in her absence I made a nice portion of Bucatini alla Puttanesca from the September/October 2014 Eating Well. That was a "taste of Italy" issue, and one of my favorites.

Saturday, March 23 - M was still gone, but the friends whose dinner over was canceled were able to make it over. We had three different dishes:

- Roasted Cauliflower Walnut Dip, served with pita and carrot sticks.
- Whole-Grain Salad with Charred Broccoli, Spring Onions & Parsley-Sumac Vinaigrette
- Vegan Chocolate Cake from Moosewood Favorites served with Key Lime Ice Cream and Vegan Salted Caramel Ice Cream, both from Mitchell's.

All three recipes were brand new to me, which is perhaps ambitious for a dinner party, but so be it. The cauliflower dip was much like hummus, although not quite as smooth. We speculated that adding tahini might make it even better. For the salad I used farro. I'd definitely make the salad again, and probably the cauliflower dip.

We played a nice round of Unstable Unicorns between dinner and dessert, then saw Captain Marvel. It was a good night.

Sunday, March 24 - Another benefit of the prior night was that I still had a lot of leftovers, so I ate them.

Monday, March 25 - After last week's fish success, I tried out another fish recipe from Moosewood Favorites. This time it was Oven Poached Fish with Leeks and Wine. I made it using ocean perch. M gave this two big thumbs up.

Tuesday, March 26 - One of my team members just came back from maternity leave and another had had a birthday, so we had a team outing to Aladdin's in Westlake for lunch. I got some chicken len-chili and a salad.

For dinner, I went back to the first Smitten Kitchen Cookbook to make Harvest Roast Chicken with Grapes, Olives, and Rosemary. This is one of my go to recipes from Smitten Kitchen; the roasted grapes always taste delicious.

Wednesday, March 27 - M and I went to see Miss Sharon Jones! at the Rock Hall, then had a late dinner at Buckeye Beer Engine. I learned they have half price boneless wings on Wednesday nights, and also had some fried macaroni bites.

Thursday, March 28 - M was busy, so I ate the Lemony Linguini with Spring Vegetables by myself. This came from the March/April 2018 Eating Well. It really loads the green vegis into the pasta.
