You Are What You Eat: March 14 through March 20

Mar 20, 2019 22:08

It occurs to me that there are probably apps or something to track this kind of thing, but I as always, enjoy my lo-fi notepad and ancient social media. Here we go.

Thursday, March 14 - One of the fastest recipes I have is the Chickpea Curry (Chhole) from September/October 2016 Eating Well. In less than 20 minutes you can have a full fledged curry that tastes really good, which makes it perfect when you're starving after a trip to the gym.

Friday, March 15 - I got home from work on Friday and was utterly ravenous for some reason. We undertook another trip to Rood Food and Pie. This was my second visit and M's third, and we both still really like the place. We split some yucca chips and mixed and matches our slides from the Awoken Mushroom and Sloppy Tofu combos. Both were very good, although I'd give a slight edge to the tofu. We'll be returning some more.

We eyed the pie options, but I was really feeling the urge for ice cream, so we swung by Malley's and I got a sundae to go.

Later in the evening we caught a show at Mahall's and beer was purchased.

Saturday, March 16 - After a day involving many errands I was fully prepared to make soup, but M induced me to take her to La Plaza for tacos, or more accurately a burrito for her and nachos for me. This was my first time in the newly constructed restaurant area. Fortunately, the food hasn't changed any.

Sunday, March 17 - Somewhat ironically, a scant ten days after I said I couldn't recall it we were at Felice right as it opened at 10:30 for brunch with Emily and Chris. The company was superb, the food solidly in the "that was fine, but I don't need to rush back" category.

Before we left for brunch I had loaded up the slow cooker for a new recipe from the brand new April 2019 Eating Well. When I got home from radio we had a very tasty Vegetarian Slow-Cooker Pozole, which is a good way to use up extra cabbage and more importantly very tasty. I'll be making this again.

Monday, March 18 - I have to keep reminding myself to make more seafood. This meal marked two weeks in a row with seafood ( shrimp salad) as I made the Malaysian Fish from Moosewood Favorites. M really likes the sauce on this one, which is rich in tamarind.

Tuesday, March 19 - Sometimes, you just want something like dumplings. The January/February 2015 Eating Well offered up Chicken & Gnocchi Dumplings, which creates a dumpling like meal without any actually need to do the hard work of making dumplings. It's rich and hearty.

Wednesday, March 20 - Tonight I made the Italian Egg-Drop Soup I didn't make on Saturday. Based on my long ago post, it appears to have been from approximately the January/February 2010 Eating Well (their website isn't more precise), which would make it the oldest recipe from Eating Well I've made thus far this year. It's still really good and really quick to make. We also had crackers and spreadable cheese.
