Good Car News, Bad Car News

On Friday, I mailed the check for my last car payment. This means that I paid off a 36-month car loan in just 20 months. This was possible because I overpaid by a drastic amount every month, and then had a windfall that let me pay off the rest of it. Even without the windfall, it would have been paid off in 24 months. Since I hate, hate, hate being in debt, this is a good thing.

Naturally, on Sunday when I was parking before my radio show I managed to back into a concrete divider that was too low for me to see out the rear view mirror. I bashed out the panel that is behind the back passenger side wheel. Fortunately, the car is still fully functional, but this is still incredibly annoying. Even more annoying, I almost went past the parking spot that caused the issue; if I'd seen it just a second later I would have gone and parked in my usual backup spot farther away from the station.

I thought that once I paid off the car I'd take a month's payment and get power locks put in. Now that looks like it'll have to wait behind the panel. If I was still driving my old 2000 Honda Accord I wouldn't bother to get it fixed, but since I hope that my 2010 Honda Civic will last until I'm fifty I'll probably get this fixed. If nothing else, that panel keeps salt from getting to a nice chunk of the underlying frame.

And so it goes. Anyone know a good body shop, preferably in Lakewood? Once it gets nicer I can drive there and pull my bike out of the trunk to head to work.

car, help me
