Sharing my worst case scenario...

Feb 06, 2009 11:33

Well, since I have the day off, and not much to do, I thought I'd write about my "worst case scenario thinking" of the current economic and political situation...

It can be glimpsed when looking at some possible motives in the very rigid stance the conservative right / Republicans (they really are becoming one these days) are taking by becoming the party of "no", and by them intentionally becoming an obstructionist party that is actively blocking progessive policies, and I'm paraphrasing Rush, in the hopes that Obama fails.

I think their long term goal is hoping that if, not when, Obama and the current Congress are unable to stem the bleeding of the depression we are about to go into (and I honestly believe we are standing on the edge of a cliff), that they will be able to step forward and say, "I told you so...", in the hopes the American people will undergo a paradigm shift and come back to them.

I see two things from this...

First...if they see their best odds as being a negative and obstructionist party in the hopes of failure...just so they can be the only ones left standing...then I fear what that says about the storm we are about to ride into. A major political party sees its best odds at it getting power by wanting the rest of the country to collapse around it. What does that say about what some of the most inside minds in this country think we are about to endure?

Second...I see this as the policy of a party with absolutely no new ideas, and whose purpose has simply become to obtain power for its own purpose, and not that of America's. A party that has given up representing the people at large, and as turned so in on itself, that it demonizes, ridicules, and lies about anyone who is not blindly cheering for its own narrow ideology.

Does anyone else not see that as the first stage of fascism?

And if we collapse economically, despite Obama's and the rest of this government's best efforts, wouldn't that make us ripe for an extreme, nationalistic ideology that is the one who fought for us to not go down this path "in the first place"? (I put the quotes for obvious reasons).

And wouldn't a well placed, well timed "terrorist" attack, or set of attacks, bring about that collapse? Think about what happened to the economy after 9/11. Bush severely underfunded the 9/11 commissions recommendations...port security, etc. And strongly relied on internal NSA spying on America at large (and yes, the NSA captures all phone conversations, emails, faxes, and electronic communications...and if you don't believe me, read this from NOVA on PBS.) By Obama ending the internal spying on Americans, Cheney could be trying to appear prophetic...as he knows the FBI doesn't have the resources to track terrorists within our own country.

Anyway...I'm a chess player, I look at all possibilities. Thought I'd share what I thought was the worst one.

Happy Friday everyone!
