Coffee cup in hand, Harry glanced out the window with bleary eyes at the new day in time to see two white blurs scamper across the concrete.
"Bob!"
Harry leaned forward, nearly pressing his nose against the dusty glass. The blurs continued up the trunk of the nearest tree, as if on an invisible spiral staircase.
"Did you see that?"
The ghost materialized behind Harry. "Did I see what?"
"There. Right there!" The younger wizard jabbed a finger at the tree.
"There is nothing there."
"But there were! Damn!" Harry tilted his head, trying to look up into the leafy canopy.
Bob stepped forward and bent at the waist, leaning through the glass until he was partially outside. It was a disconcerting image, seeing a man bisected by a wall, but fortunately there were no innocent bystanders wandering by at so early an hour to witness the phenomenon.
Looking first left then right then straight up, Bob assessed the situation before disappearing back inside the building.
"There is nothing there," he confirmed.
"But there were!" Harry insisted. "Ghost squirrels! Two ghost squirrels!" He frowned as he tried to recall the fleeting image. "I think one of them was wearing a cape."
"Harry, Harry, Harry," Bob sighed, his tone exasperated. "How many times must I tell you not to use alcoholic spirits as a base to your potions?"
