Mister Smith held out his plate, his expression hopeful. The burly cook arched an eyebrow then shrugged, scraping another patty of mystery meat off the grill.
"What's that, your third burger?" asked Kurdy.
"Fifth."
"Shit! Just don't come running to me when your ass winds up in the infirmary."
Cook glowered at the implied insult. Surprisingly, instead of launching into a tirade of mangled English, he deliberately turned back to Smith and asked, "You want cheese with dat?"
"Cheese?" Kurdy perked up. "We've got cheese?"
"No. He's got cheese," Cook replied, handing Smith the cheeseburger. "You got a big mouth."
