1. The first character I fell in love with: Sam. I never really fell in love with anyone in The Hobbit, so it's Sam all the way. 2. The character I never expected to love as much as I do now: Denethor, hands down. Much of my love developed out of sheer cussedness. 3. The character everyone else loves that I don’t: Legolas. Never stirred a heartbeat, I'm not at all sorry to say. He just never registered. 4. The character I love that everyone else hates: Denethor again. See also: cussedness. 5. The character I would shag anytime: Faramir. Eowyn would kill me, though, so actually, I wouldn't. Maedhros, then. 6. The character I'd want to be like: Eowyn. She is made of win. 7. The character I'd slap: Feanor. Partly so I could say I'd done it, partly because most of what happened in the Silmarillion was his fault and he wasn't the one who suffered for it. 8. A pairing that I love: Faramir/Eowyn all the way! They're my true 'OTP', in the 'Any other pairing with them will not make my favorite list because it would mean breaking them apart' way. Fortunately, Tolkien agreed with me. 9. A pairing that I despise: Legolas/Aragorn. I mean, I'm sure some people who ship it are really quite nice people, and they're not all shallow fanbrats who turn the characters into romance novel stereotypes and bash Arwen. It just seems that way. And me, I'm all about canon first. 10. Favorite character: Just one? Oh gosh. Um. Lessee...Faramir, I *think*, because he has many of the characteristics of my other favorite characters, and also was my first fictional crush. 11. What are my five favorite things about the fandom. There's no shortage of intelligent, literate fen; stories for the more obscure pairings and characters can be found; it's full of people who like many of the same things I like; there are plenty of people who care about canon as much as I do; it's where we all got started. 12. What are my five least favorite things about the fandom. Legolusters; people who can't tell book from movie, or who like the movie better; the solid wall of Mary Sues; too many people ignore canon; the fandom is full of people who aren't writing Tolkien fanfic at all, but (un)original fantasy. 13. Who are my five favorite characters. Sam, Faramir, Eowyn, Maedhros, Galadriel. 14. Who are my five least favorite characters. Morgoth, Sauron, Feanor, Turin, Grima. 15. What are my five favorite pairings. Faramir/Eowyn (OTP for ever), Frodo/Sam, Legolas/Gimli, Maedhros/Fingon, Beren/Luthien. 16. What are my five least favorite pairings. Legolas/Aragorn, Sauron/anyone, Morgoth/anyone, Grima/Eowyn, anything incest. 17. Which character are you most like. I'm not sure. I mean, I don't think I know myself well enough. Besides, the line between how I am and ho I'd like to be is blurry from the inside. 18. What is my deep, dark fandom secret. I haven't read more than a fic or two for this fandom in the past year. I'm not sure I'll ever get more involved. I'll always be a fan, but Tolkien may be too large a part of my soul for me ever to expose to the casual cruelties of fandom at large.
I've never *disliked* Legolas or anything, it's just that he only ever registered on my radar as half of LegolasandGimli. As an individual, I always thought that he was kinda bland.
Sometimes I think that the curse on the children of Hurin was mostly Turin's tendency to kill first, think later.
