Out in Alberta...

Sep 04, 2004 14:32

Well..been here about 2 weeks now! Was supposed to leave yesterday but found out that busses dont run on the weekend (friday - monday, including those days). Then, after that..they are overbooked for what they said was about "a week" so probably the next 5 days after that (considering weeks in work terms are only 5 days). Anita and I are going to try heading out on wednesday anyway and see if we can catch a bus.

Not sure I want to go, its been a kewl time out here except that we've been sick the ENTIRE TIME. Its an unending cold. Starts with a bit of "sick" feeling..like just a shitty feeling...then a sore throat for about 4 days..then after that, a cough that just wont stop..its impossible to sleep (been about another 3 days since that started)..and now that the cough isnt so bad, i've got bleeding nose (both nostrils) and no matter how much I blow my nose, 15 mins later i do it again..takes about 10 mins to empty my sinuses!! Its totally fucked up..been on all kindsa meds for it and it still wont let up.

One thing I gotta recommend on one of those unending shitty colds is to take the "convenience pack" of Nyquil/Dayquil take 2 every 4-6 hours (imo). Totally makes you feel MUCH better and at the same time, relaxes you..they rock, end of story.

But besides being completely sick, ive also been working out here. 2 weeks work out here has paid me 1,500 dollars. Cant complain!

Oh ya we're out in Fort McMurray. Pretty nice place actually. My sister lives out here with her BF/common-law and her kids. They just bought a house about a year ago for 240,000 dollars. They are making good money, working for DHL out here. The place is practically run by Syncrude Oil Industries tho. Its like one of those major corporate companies that take over the world type of companies. They employ THOUSANDS of people out here and actually have their own bus charters to get their employees home..like im not talking city busses, im talking HUGE busses, over 150 of em too. Those kind you take to travel across country. Bus line is called Diversity. But not only does Syncrude run this place..but they hold festivals and other wierd shit you'd only think happens in books.

Its almost like smallville out here. The one big "Luthor Corp" that runs the world. One of those kinda businesses. Fucking land value is HUGE out here...just to own the lot that their house is built on costs 2,500 dollars a year. Oh and my sister and her bf also own their own trailer house thing which they rent out for 1200 a month. So they are making BIG MONEY (hence the reason I was paid so much). They probably rake in (together) over 200,000 a year (maybe a little less).

On other news, this place is beautiful. Mountains (filled with trees, cant actually see the "rock" its so jam packed full of trees) surround everything. She lives in Timberlake which is right on the top level of the 'mountain'. Its about 200,000 feet higher than where winnipeg sits so is quite a site (and your ears pop a lot). Only problem with this place is that its way too dusty. LOTS of dust in the air. Very dry..etc. A lot of development going on out here also tho. Beautiful houses everywhere. Hmm oh yah and when its really cloudy out, the tops of the hills touch the skies..you see the clouds hovering about.

The height at which our house is, is about in the middle of the clouds on a "low ceiling" day with the clouds (where the clouds sit the lowest in the sky..if you watch the weather channel). When it does that, its like travelling through cotton (imagine sticking a wad of cotton in front of your face, then walking around. When the weather is very humid, you are literally walking in clouds. But the kewlest thing is, when you travel down to Fort Mac (the inner city) you go from being in the clouds, to being under them...so it goes from being only able to see 1 inch in front of you (very creepy btw) to actually being able to "touch the sky" when you drive just below it on the way down to the city.

All in all, great place. apparently it "never rains here" yet its rained the entire time since we been here lol..shitty weather since we been here, but oh well. Oh it also apparently doesnt snow here much in the winter..so its relatively ideal..least when Im not bringing winnipegs weather with me lol.

Ahh well, oh yah..i might be moving out here in the next upcoming couple years. Once I get my schooling done, apparently theres work needed out here for my talents (what i have of talent anyway lol).

Hmm other than that..i think im done blabbing. Thanks for listening if anyone is..and if not, well its good to get my thoughts down anyway. Hope everyone has a good long weekend and feel free to drop me a note on here or give me a call on my cell (204) 955 6223. Oddly enough, when im out here, calling other phones out here from mine isnt considered long distance..but if i were to call from here to winnipeg, it is considered long distance..its kinda neat with my cellphone..ahh well

later!
