"What's that?" I turn the small volume over in my hands.
"I found it in the parking lot." Corey makes a grab for it over my shoulder but I hold on and glare back at her.
"Time travel, huh?" She rolls her eyes and hitches her bag higher on her shoulders. "Don't tell me you think your brother escaped into the past or something."
"No, he's dead." I run my fingers over the writing on the cover, feel the gold leaf flake.
"Okay..." Corey draws out the word and I know it means she wont talk to me for a week. "See you later freako." I grip the book tighter and watch as she runs off, hair blowing in the breeze.
You never know, I think to myself. Maybe I can get Donnie out of bed and save him.
Or, says another voice in my head. Maybe you could join him.
