Slave to the Pills

My doctor's quest to find some other reason than ME for my ongoing fatigue problems took him down the Thyroxin route. My blood tests showed a consistently lowish thyroxine level so he prescribed me low dose levothyroxine - made a certain amount of sense, low thyroid function would explain some of the symptoms. It kicked in about 3 weeks ago and my body promptly crashed. It has been crashed ever since. Had a blood test last week to check levels and went to see the doc. I swear he doesn't listen to a word I say if it disagrees with what he's already decided - told him I wasn't reacting well to the stuff, and he says "let's up the dosage!" Fortunately that got knocked on the head when he discovered that my usually lowish blood pressure was now at the high end of the normal spectrum. However, the obvious solution of stopping taking the damn things is apparently not an option, because taking thyroxine tablets seemingly causes the body to decrease its own production so if I stopped I'd have seriously low levels which is a bad thing. So I'm stuck at crashed unless my thyroid drops production enough to take me back to pre-tablet levels. Joy.
