Star Tribune and Minneapolis WIFI

Minneapolis is getting WIFI, most of it anyways.  Since announcing the Minneapolis WIFI initiative over a year ago, I have been anxious about getting a lower cost yet flexible alternative to paying the King’s ransom to Comcast for home Internet service.  My area of Minneapolis is very populous and affluent, yet was the last  area to be brought online.

After several revisions to ‘live’ schedule, my area was finally set to be brought live in October then Novemeber then December/Janaury then January/Febuary then March 11, then changed again to the 29.  A few days before, I wrote the people installing it and asked if they thought they would make the 29th, since they had not even begun construction in the area.  Three days late I received a reply that said they were completing construction and it is impossible to say when it would be brought live.   They began construction the next day.

A few weeks passed and I have been receiving the coming soon signal, but nothing further.  Emails to company go unanswered.  I wrote Steve Alexander technology columnist with the Star Tribune newspaper and he called this morning to discuss the details because he is writing a follow up piece, so he interviewed me and hopefully will be able to get some better answers from the company.

update, annoyed
