driving home on 77 today i was in the left lane behind a car that was going about 65. while the speed was hardly enough to be in that lane, it was forgivable because of the light snow that was falling. i followed behind it for awhile, partially because i was being cautious with the weather but also because my eyes were transfixed on the back of car. the bumper was missing. it was strange looking because it was a nice car but without the bumper pieces of metal were just sort of jetting out and looking all awkward and unbalanced. eventually my impatience outweighed my curiosity and i passed the car. not more than a minute later i saw the car veer off the road and down the hill of the grassy median. it had so much speed that it slid through across the snow covered grass into the northbound lanes and oncoming traffic. it was so scary. since i was in front of the car at the time i couldn't see whether it had hit (or been hit) by another car but it seemed likely. i called 911. it just kept ringing and ringing. no one ever picked up.
i've been checking the news and haven't seen anything about the accident so i'm thinking (hoping) that no one was injured. it looked pretty bad though, even from 300 feet away in my rearview mirror.
