J. Mercer pt. I life_of_amesu April 10 2010, 05:50:06 UTC
My Mercer (Christian name of Joseph) is from Manchester, as his accent dictates. Probably from a large lower middle class family who are slightly eccentric. For some reason I don't see his parents ever really having much control over the kids and I see him as a middle child so often lost in the melee and allowed to basically do as he pleased ( ... )

As stated before about education - he probably received a minimal one locally in Manchester before he scooted out of there before it could claim his soul ;P From then on I think he learned things as he worked as well as furthering his own education by himself. He strikes me as a naturally inquisitive, if quiet about it, man who would be well read enough, for one of his station, but would never really brag about it or mention it. I think his breadth of knowledge increased after he began working for Beckett since he would have had access to his master's library. Street knowledge though - I could see him trumping everyone. :D ( ... )

aww why thank you. I really just write for Mercer, Beckett's an optional extra xD (like God and the Church of England).

I'll see if anything comes up, my fanfic writing has largely died down. On to original stuff and such ;P

Tee-he, something told me that as soon as 'Mercer' was mentioned that you'd be here to comment! (because of your Meckett fics you'd have to be an expert) Your story above is well put.

Most likely he went to London since -everyone- went to London if they wanted to get out of the life they were living.

Indeed! Though for many it brought as much bad as it brought good. I can see that being applied even now too. I am buying a plane ticket... in a few years time. (or at least I hope so lol)

Omg, I totally thought you said he had a "Manchurian" accent until I read it again - which is odd because I'm toying with the idea of where Mercer would go after Beckett [pretending he was never tentacle raped to death] and I was thinking of China or Prauge. I know Mercer isn't really a Jew, but I have so much research on Jews in this period that I want to use it and I think Mercer is the perfect candidate.

Also, F. Mercer and Beckett totally sex each other with their eyes.

Also! Never rule out any crazy theory in PotC, it just might turn out to be cannon.

Hahaha lol. And Mercer would so go after Beckett, and Prague! All Prague all the way :D
I understand, I like to make him Catholic in my mind even though that's not entirely plausible. While there were Catholic's in England at the time, it's just not that likely he was one. Unless he has strong Irish or Scottish heritage.
F. Mercer? What does the F stand for? xD

And Mercer and Beckett totally sex each other with their eyes :D all the time.

I have an obsession with bedlam and the treatments used for "insanity" in the early modern period. It's quite fascinating. I just like to put Mercer in there for shits and giggles.

And, btw, that fic needs to be written about Mercer following Beckett! :D

Suppose Mercer did go to China and he had to deal with the Chinese pirates coming after him. Interesting.

Why would the Chinese pirates be chaising after him? Because of his role in the murder of the twins/Sai Fang? I guess, I just don't see the pirates holding a grudge against Mercer, more Beckett since they would understand that he was the man making the orders.

xD

But still, epic chases are for the win. :D

He killed the twins. Someone owned those twins, paid good money for them, kept them fed and clothed and trained them. They were investments and Mercer just went all Bernie Maydoff on them. Someone, somewhere would be totally pissed about the loss of the twins...it's not as if they are as replaceable as a single unit.

True, that is very true. I was always under the assumption that it was Sau Fang (sp?) and with his death the problem was solved. Who do you have in mind?

Mistress Ching loaned them out. The twins had a very put together appearance that I associate more with Ching than Sao Fang. Who knows, when the twins called Ching "Auntie" they might not have just been being polite but could have been real nieces.

True, I hadn't thought of that. I tend to ignore most of POTC and make up my own stuff (not that anyone has noticed, lol) but that's true.

In anycase, are you going to write it?
