This is a strange story but it’s not a fiction, even if it looks like a sort of pirates treasure hunt.
Some days ago a friend of mine mailed me: “ Read this!”. It was a post in T&T Worldplayer forum and it talked about a bonus disc sold free buying AWE dvd. In this bonus you can find 45 minutes of extras never included in AWE dvd. Titles: Pirates of Salty Plains; The Return of the Flying Dutchman; Acting under water; The destruction of the Endeavour; From wax to Will: Orlando and Madame Tussauds; AWE World Premieres.
My God.
My friend asks: “Do you know anything about this?”. Nothing at all. And it is VERY weird because the poster is an Italian girl who found the bonus disc in an Italian multimedia shop! “Try to know something more!” orders my friend and as a loyal Mercer I do it. I discover a link in the post which is girl’s e-mail address. With a brazen-faced that I get only in special occasions (and this was VERY special), I write asking for informations. Three hours later I got all the answers and yesterday I came into possession of notorius bonus disc. (Meanwhile I have added a new smart friend who loves Pirates and this is another good value.)
What can I say? This bonus disc is enjoyable and finally contains some Beckett behind the scenes! It’s odd watching Tommy acting Beckett’s end circled by nothing more than a blue screen, a piece of bridge and a little else. He is superb! And Hollander on the red carpet is so tender when he says: “ Nobody knows me, so no fan screams for me”. (Are you sure, Tom? Just because WE were not there, my dear!)But mystery persists. Why this promotion ( besides with no advertising) and why in Italy? (Well, Disney is powerful in Italy… like in every part of the world, I suppose…) I don’t know in U.S.A., Australia or New Zealand, but perhaps other Europeans have a hope. Language tracks are in English, Spanish, German, Netherland and of course Italian (strangely not in French), so I presume that in other European multimedia stores you can find this promotion. So plot your course and good luck!
