Update
Hope everyone had a happy Christmas!
Chris's surgery went well - no complications. It was anticipated that he'd be in surgery for 12 hours, but in the end it only took six, so that's probably a good sign.
I had an update from his brother the day after, who said that everything went well and that the heart was a good, strong one. I guess it was a from a 26 year old man, but I don't think they know anything other than that. I'm not sure how that works..
Chris called me last night. He said he was in a lot of pain, but he sounded in good spirts. he thinks he might have to be there for a month. He's going through kidney dialysis. He's had problems with his kidneys for awhile due to complications from medication and retaining water, so this should give them the boost they need to start healing on their own.
So, everything sounds like it's on the right track.
