Tax Dollars at Work

I had my Service Canada meeting this morning and I'm very, very happy with the outcome!

They're going to pay for 75% of my tuition and books for both years. They'are also going to give me an allowance of $31 biweekly for the bus (monthly student pass is $58.30, so that's completely covered). In addition to that I'll continue to receive regular EI benefits for the whole time I'm in school.

I'm very excited! I've often thought about going to school and the idea that I can now go, while getting it mostly paid for AND getting money every week as if I was still working is.. unbelieveable. I consider myself very lucky.

They've also pre-approved me to leave any job I get now so I can attend school in January. So I can work as much as I want and save up money now to have it as a float when school starts. They'll just put my EI benefits on hold and reactivate them when I start attending school.

I'm also going to apply for a student loan just for some overhead (and so I can buy a laptop!), and because by doing so I will become eliglble for other government grants.

I'm so grateful for this opportunity and I'm glad that I have good things to look forward to.

Hooray for positive life changes!
