So last night I had what I guess was another migraine. Took the new meds again, and had nausea and gagging all night, resulting in no sleep. I managed to make it through by reading Dracula and The Scarlet Letter on my kindle and watching Nostalgia Critic videos on youtube in the basement. Even then, telling myself ‘x hours until my little pony’ was ( Read more... )

oh honey. This just isn't fair. All these migraines and sickness I wish they'd just go away so you can get some sleep and relax. Damnit but it's just isn't right. I wish I could just take them away from you with just a thought, I'd gladly suffer through them myself if it meant you could sleep more and relax and feel better. I want you to feel better. I don't want this to cause you so much stress and heartache.

Have you tried putting something cool on your head while they happen? A co worker of mine told me that headaches and migraines produce a lot of heat and sometimes it helps to take some of that heat away. I know an ice pack or a wet cloth has always worked for me, if nothing else but something to help relax. Try applying minor pressure to the area as well, just a hand gently pressed against your head will do. Once someone told me that running your thumb along your eyebrows with a bit of pressure can help (though I think that varies, sometimes it's worked for me and other times it hasn't). Remember to keep lights off and your eyes closed while it's happening since the bright lights and colors could make it worse. Sometimes natural sunlight is better and fresh air can sometimes help too, so if you have some kind of outside area try sitting there for a bit or open a window for some fresh air. Breath slowly and deeply, they are scary but relaxing can help. Try different positions (sitting and lying down) to see what relaxes you more your head and if lying down doesn't help sitting up and leaning your head against something might make you feel better (sometimes when they get really bad, like when they make me nauseous, sitting in the bathroom with a pillow on the ledge of the bathtub or even lying crouched on the floor makes me feel a lot better than lying on my bed or sitting in the living room. Dunno why but it does and maybe that could work for you. Where ever you feel the most comfortable is best).

Always, always remember to eat something before you take any kind of medication. Medicines can often react badly to an empty stomach, to the natural acids in your stomach, and can make it worse. If you don't want something big try just crackers or some fruit or even a bit of cereal. Wait a bit, like maybe 10 minutes before you take the pill so the food settles. Caffeine (I've never tried with coffee but soda) can help too but not too much. Try to stay clear of tv, reading or the computer while it's happening. Working the eyes too much can worsen the pain further or prolong it. Take breaks when it's not happening either, over working your eyes can cause the pain too.

I know you mentioned exercising on tumblr, which is very good. Take that slowly and don't push yourself. Drink lots of water and keep yourself hydrated cause dehydration can often lead to headaches and migraines too. Have breakfast in the morning, if nothing else never skip that. Sometimes your body just needs a good meal. Ugh I know I sound like a nagging doctor or something and I'm sure you're doing these things already but it's the only thing I can think to do to help, trying to think of the times that I've had migraines and what I did to help and see if maybe they help you too. I wish there was more that I could do. I wish I could give you hugs and hold your hand and be there with you.

It's going to be ok though, you're going to be ok. I promise you this.

Oh, honey, what in the world did I do to deserve such a caring and thoughtful friend? I felt like bursting into tears reading this because of all the care and thought you put into this. I am seriously going to take all of this advice. I even shared it with my mom and she was surprised and agreed with a lot of it. It's extremely comforting to know I'm not alone in this, and that I have such a smart and kind person as a friend.
