I hate more than anything when customers either walk up to another register besides mine and look at me like uh why aren't you checking me out or ask "which one are you on" when obviously the light is on at my register and my register only. Dolts.
Middle aged guy comes through my line with 2 pairs of Levi jeans and as I'm ringing them up he makes small talk being genuinly nice. After I tell him his total he hands me a gift card and proceeds to say "I'm not sure how much money is on there but I know it's at least $100" so I swipe the card and wait for it to process only to see "$0.00" come across the screen so I turn to the phone and page my manager to the front. As I'm waiting on her he keeps repeating himself "did it not take?", "I know there was money on there, I got it for my birthday last month and it had $170 or $176 on it and I haven't used it yet". Ok, first off, who would give someone a gift card with an odd number of $170 or $176 on it? Second, did he not just say he didn't know how much was on it but it was at least $100? Freak. So, she finally comes up there and calls the gift card company trying to "figure out what was going on" although we really knew. As she was calling he still kept repeating over and over again how he just knew there was money on there because he got it for his birthday last month and hadn't used it yet. After she called the company she was able to print off a receipt that showed the transaction it was used on and how much was on the card and showed it to him and he said "oh okay, well I guess I'll just take it back and take the receipt and show it to the girl that gave it to me". Right.
After the incident of above happened my manager had to post void the transaction out so my drawer wouldn't come up short since it was taking so long I had to go ahead and finish the transaction out as cash. So she was standing beside my register trying to call and figure out how to void it out. I started ringing up two younger girls and I noticed one of them that wasn't buying anything walked up to my manager and said something to her about this older lady that came up to her several minutes earlier and asked her if she could tell her the sizes on some clothes because she couldn't see them. After they left, I asked my manager what was said and she said the girl was like "If you could take the time even though you're not doing anything right now and help that elderly lady look for some things because she obviously can't see and isn't that your job anyways, to help customers?" while the manager was obviously standing there with papers in her hand doing something. There was also a younger lady with the elderly lady that was helping her so what the hell? Get a grip.
