Related Suck

My boyfriend works as a police cadet at the university we both attend. The students are considered the cadets' customers since their tuition pays their salary and in return the cadets protect the campus.

A worker at one of the many construction sites on campus broke a gas line along one of the paths that leads to a lecture hall, parking, and dorms. It's a busy section of campus so pretty much all the campus police were called in while the cadets made sure no pedestrians interfered. There were police cars all around with the lights flashing and police tape blocking off the evacuated area. Basically, there was no way you could miss that something bad had happened.

However, no fewer than FIVE pedestrians saw the police tape blocking their path and decided that it didn't apply to them. They cruised past my boyfriend's post, lifted the tape, and tried to walk through the evacuated area. Of course the bo saw them and didn't let them get any further than lifting the tape, but who sees police tape and decides to breeze right by it? For all they know it could be a crime scene that they were about to contaminate. The area was evacuated for their protection, not to make life more difficult.

If they didn't know the campus well enough to find an alternate path, all they had to do was ask somebody; either a fellow pedestrian or one of the cadets stationed by the blocked off area. I don't see how they possibly could have thought crossing police tape was the best solution. And what really boggles the mind was that at least 5 people did it!

Edited to ask: would this be more appropriately labeled as WTF? I suppose it didn't suck, but the bo seemed pretty frustrated with having to keep telling people not to walk into a deadly area.
